Publish Your Book
Thank you for your valued trust in Dar Melad and your interest in publishing with us. We would like to draw your attention to the fact that the house has introduced a new policy defining its book publishing process. We therefore hope you will read the following steps carefully to ensure your aspirations align with the house's policy and direction:
First: Complete your manuscript (your book)
Complete the manuscript (your book) and make sure your ideas are original, the language is sound, and the content is suitable for the target audience. At this stage, we suggest you reach out to other writers to help you read, review, and constructively critique your manuscript, to ensure it comes out in the best possible form. Please note that Dar Melad specializes in publishing (the Arabic novel), (the translated novel), (Arabic short story collections), (translated short story collections), (translated poetry), and (narrative concerned with the craft of the novel, the short story, and cinema) only; accordingly, we are unable to accept any works that fall outside our scope. We would also like to emphasize that Melad's publications target adults only. We are therefore unable to accept works aimed at young adults or children, as they require a working mechanism and a marketing approach that differ from ours.
Second: Find a literary agent
Dar Melad does not receive publishing submissions directly, and you must contract a licensed literary agent in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in order to publish through us. The literary agent helps you protect your interests and negotiate contracts, and ensures the selection of the publishing house suited to you based on the houses' directions and the type of books they publish. Visit the following link to see the list of licensed literary agents in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: https://engage.moc.gov.sa/literary_agent/licensed/
Third: Submit the manuscript to Dar Melad through your literary agent
Once the agent accepts your manuscript, they will often suggest some revisions to improve the chances of publication. The agent then takes on the task of submitting your work to us and negotiating with us on your behalf. Please note that the house does not accept self-publishing (publishing at the author's expense), nor publishing without a literary agent.
Fourth: Sign the publishing contract
If publication is approved, the house will send you the contract through your literary agent, and you will have the opportunity to sign it electronically without needing to visit our premises. The agent plays an important role in negotiating the contract details, but you will be the final decision-maker in accepting the terms and signing. Note that the house is responsible for bearing all publishing costs, in accordance with the terms of the publishing contract you sign. The house also follows no policy that obliges the author, or their agent, to pay any amount in exchange for publication.
Fifth: Take part in editing the manuscript
Dar Melad does not publish any book without editing or reviewing it. Therefore, after the contract is signed, we will hold several workshops to involve you in refining the manuscript and preparing it in its final form, and the house will devote all its efforts to ensuring the soundness and readiness of the text at the level of language as well as ideas.
Sixth: Take part in promoting the manuscript
The house will hold a launch event for your book after publication, and will work to promote the book through forums, conferences, and digital platforms, based on the marketing plan carefully prepared after the contract is signed. Note that the house actively involves its authors, both in person and online, in the promotional campaigns, to ensure their books reach the widest possible audience. The house also submits its books to local and international awards and features them in cultural sessions to increase their readership and popularity.
